Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Dec 2019

Description

"It's elegantly expressed on the nose showing apricot, apple and lemon characters with hints of oatmeal and almond. The palate delivers lovely weight and juicy fruit intensity backed by bright acidity, finishing long and vibrant. It's flavoursome and lingering. At its best: now to 2021" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Dec 2019

An alluring nose of fresh white flowers, chamomile tea, white pepper and lemon zest. Bright pale straw coloured, it’s instantly appealing in the glass. To taste; white pepper and stone fruits with just a hint of allspice. And the palate - very complete; it’s full, well rounded and persistent; finishing perfectly crisp and refreshing.

The grapes for this Mystery Grüner Veltliner were grown from a very special site; geologically older soils of crushed river stones, intermixed with clay, free draining and naturally devigourating, which makes it ideal for premium grape production. All varietals grown on this terroir display a more exotic flavour profile, richer palate and distinctive “biscuity” minerality than those grown on the Wairau.

The grapes were machine harvested in the cool of the morning, cold settled and cool fermented in stainless steel tanks prior to blending and finishing for bottling in spring.

Really nice wine. Very good flavour and medium bodied. Greatly value from a respected producer. Delivery was very quick. Well worth a try, although, surprisingly, it wasn’t to everyone’s taste around here

Trevor - 04/10/2020

Outstanding.

Grüner is one of our go-to alternative varietals. Very versatile and compliments a wide range of food.

Very good value for money. Brings back happy memories of a holiday in Austria. Have rerecorded more to put aside for summer lunches on the patio.

Along with the Albarino, this was another pleasant recent discovery. Subtle and well balanced, with just a hint of je ne sais quoi.

S
Really good value for a varietal that is not widely grown in New Zealand. Lovely to drink with food like chicken or on its own.

Suzanne - 03/04/2020

T
Different wine style however very enjoyable.

Tom - 14/02/2020

Not quite as dry as expected, very enjoyable nonetheless and will likely purchase again

Not a Grape I've tried before . Interesting more as a dry white rather than a outstanding wine. Good acid and a wine that goes well with food. It doesn't have the in Your face power of a Sav Blanc or the depth of a oaked Chardonnay but is still very nice and at this price it is value for money.

Paul - 21/04/2020

G
Not a grape I drink often however at this price whats not to like
