"An impressively offering; it’s gloriously ripe and fragrant on the nose showing Black Doris plum, blueberry, violet, cake spice and roasted nut characters, leading to a concentrated palate that’s powerful and opulent. It’s superbly rich and intense, yet refined and stylish, finishing persistent and velvety. At its best: 2021 to 2029" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Jan 2020
"The result is a beautifully aromatic wine bursting with florals, funky spices, and boasts the most incredibly vibrant crimson colour I’ve seen in ages. Smooth, velvety and licked with black doris plums that arent ripe enough to fall off the tree yet. The bottle itself features a splash of paint across the front and the most basic of string tags displaying the name, alcohol volume (13%) and standard drinks as is required by New Zealand law. Regardless, it’s illegally tasty, vivacious and flirtatious, and something you need to own" Yvonne Lorkin, Feb 2020
Bold purple, ruby-magenta on the rim. The nose is a weave of dark-berry fruits, plums and cocoa, along with herb, whole cluster stem and baking spices. Medium-full bodied, the palate is structured on the whole cluster stems, with dense ripe red fruit and savoury, earthy tannins that balance the mid palate and draw out the length.
Hand-picked, this one tonne of Abel Pinot Noir made its way to the winery on the 30th of March 2019 with sugar levels at 25° Brix. The intact clusters were carefully sorted and placed into an open top fermenter where they were gently pigéaged to encourage fermentation utilizing wild yeasts from our vineyard. Peak temperature was 32°C. Total skin contact was 11 days before the free run wine was taken to seasoned French oak barrels for 7 months. No additives. No fining. No filtration.
The Holly range is the best Matahiwi produce. As their reserve range, named after the owners’ daughter, they are a stand out medal winners vintage to vintage. This wine is harvested from the very best parcels of fruit on Matahiwi's Home Estate, typically from low yielding vines on the lowest vigor areas within the vineyard.

Second order of this SUPERB pinot - delicious!

The 2019 Wild Holly Pinot Noir is absolutely outstanding. It looks like cherry juice and is light and playful and just a little sweet. Trouble in a bottle, as fun as the glass it comes in. Great drinking on warm autumn evenings (or anytime really). It made me escape my little bubble and travel right to the heart of the sun-drenched vineyards of the Wairarapa, with not a Coronavirus care in sight. Outstanding wine and a must for all those who like something a bit different.
