Description

  • Tropical fruit
  • Creamy
  • Fresh & pure
  • Lingering finish

"Vidal's 2019 Reserve Sauvignon Blanc is drawn primarily (85%) from the Wairau Valley, with the balance coming from Awatere. The Awatere lends a herbal edge to the passion fruit and tropical notes of Wairau, blending together nicely on the nose and palate. It's medium-bodied, with a touch more concentration and depth than the regular bottling, and there's a hint of creaminess to the texture and a lingering finish" The Wine Advocate, Joe Czerwinski, Mar 2020

Intense aromatics of passionfruit, tropical fruit and background fennel notes lead into a flavoursome, succulent palate in this dry style wine. A classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc that is fresh, pure and long on the palate reflecting the growing season and premium vineyard sites.

Fruit for this wine was sourced from premium vineyards in the Wairau Valley (85%) and the Awatere Valley (15%). These sites show a range of soil types from alluvial over a papa pan, silt over gravels and stony gravels. Meticulous attention to vine and soil health, yield control and vine balance have contributed to optimum flavour and fruit condition at the time of harvest. This classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc from the 2018/2019 growing season has produced a wine with great purity, concentration and definition.

The Sauvignon Blanc winemaking philosophy at Vidal Estate is to produce wines that reflect where they are from and the season they were grown in, in a style that is balanced, defined and flavoursome. Juice from gently pressed grapes was cool fermented to retain purity, flavour and aromatics. Lees ageing prior to bottling has developed mid-palate weight and texture adding to the wine’s intense fruit characters.

Food Pairing: Fish, shellfish and salads.
