"A beautifully styled Pinot Gris, a portion of the juice (20%) was fermented in barrels with indigenous yeasts. The fragrant bouquet shows apricot, mandarin, baked pear and floral characters with subtle floral complexity. The palate is concentrated and generously weighted, and offers terrific rounded mouthfeel and rich texture, together with a hint of savoury complexity, wonderfully structured by bright acidity" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Dec 2016
"Bright, light straw-yellow colour, paler on the rim. The nose is fresh and harmoniously presented with finely concentrated aromas of exotic florals, white and yellow stonefruits and nuances of tropical fruits, unfolding subtle notes of rose-petals and lifted fermentation esters. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the palate is youthful and refreshing with fragrant and gently succulent flavours of white stonefruits, exotic florals and tropical fruits, along with hints of honeysuckle and rose-petals. This is elegantly concentrated and the mouthfeel is lively with lacy acidity. The wine follows a fine-textured, subtle phenolic line leading to a lingering aromatic, exotic finish. This is a gently rich dryish Pinot Gris with exotic, aromatic fruit and a refreshing palate" Raymond Chan, Dec 2016
The Vintage 2016 Stanrock Pinot Gris is drinking really well, it has 20% handpicked fruit from our clone M2 Griggio, wild yeast fermented in seasoned oak barrels for about 7 months, then blended with our other clone: Entav 457 (both are latest generation low yielding clones of Pinot Gris from Europe). So it is dry style with lovely pallet weight and mineralogy, typical of the wines from our Dashwood stoney loam soils in the Lower Awatere.
