Description

  • Blackberry jam
  • Warm & velvety
  • Spiced plum
  • Bitter chocolate

"Up front and fruit expressive, this tasty shiraz shows blackberry, spiced plum, vanilla, roasted nut and dark spice aromas on the nose. It is succulent and plump on the palate with lovely weight and velvety mouthfeel, leading to a lengthy delectable finish" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

"Bold, rich, sweet Shiraz. Blackberry jam, spice, some grassy herbal notes above it. Plenty of sweet blackberry and plum with a distinct green herb flavour in there, which in some respects saves the wine from being cloying. Some powdery tannin, a little warmth, decent finish, bitter chocolate in play. It’s good enough at the price" Gary Walsh, The Wine Front

Dark purple colour with lifted notes of red berry and blackcurrants framed by violet overtones and subtle cedarwood spice. The palate is dense and plush with flavours of blood plum, blueberry and spice with a supple, slippery mouthfeel framed by subtle oak toast and fine tannins. A generous wine, packed full of flavour that is ready to drink now or will cellar for up to 10 year.

Sourced from a selection of mature, dry-grown vineyards in Langhorne Creek managed by Jim Zerella. The fruit is partially hand-harvested before de-stemming and cool fermentation in small two tonne open fermenters with regular hand plunging. Matured in seasoned French oak (20% new French) for six months before bottling with minimal filtration and sulphur addition.

Careful vineyard management is always required at the best of times but particularly in 2018 for the Limestone Coast as early November frosts caused a considerable reduction in yield. The timing of the frost event was okay from a ripening perspective and with a consistent and even temperature of the subsequent few months the fruit that remained developed beautifully with great bright flavours and fine, fresh acidity. Indeed 2018 is looking very good across all of the State of South Australia.

The Elephant in the Room wines are proudly large in scale and expansive in flavour. Ignoring fashion and braving the scorn of “wine thought police”, Elephant in the Room was created to give consumers exactly what they want – full bodied and mouth-filling wines that deliver maximum pleasure. Sourced from low yielding vineyards in Langhorne Creek and partially matured in French Oak before final blending and bottling by Corey Ryan.
