Benevolent Neglect Rosé 2017 (California)
Benevolent Neglect Rosé 2017 (California)
Description
Crisp, intriguing, and refined, this purpose-made Rosé is the product of whole cluster pressing and comes mainly from the Mourvèdre and Carignan grapes. The nose is alive with wild flowers and bramble, while the palate retains electrifying tension between acidity and round, supple texture throughout a generous finish.
Winemakers Matt Nagy and Ben Brenner are East Coast escapees who have made California their home. Matt’s day job was making $400+ retail 100-point wines, including Diamond Mountain’s famous Seaver Vineyards, but his passion is Benevolent Neglect, a tiny-production labour of love that is all about crafting the very best wines with the very least of intervention. Minimal intervention is likely the best way to describe their winemaking style. The idea of the winemaker is to be the reliable translator – to take what was made in the vineyard from sun, water, and soil and let it become the finest wine that it can be.
Food Pairing: Dry, but by no means a typical Rosé, this bright wine is the perfect pairing for sophisticated Summer meals.
