Very deep red colour. Powerful, fruity aroma. Full-bodied and well balanced tannins and lengthy finish. Drinkable now but will improve with age up to 20-30 years.

Douro Demarcated Wine Region, this Vintage Port was made from grapes grown on Wiese & Krohn's Quinta do Retiro Nova (single vineyard) in town of Sarzedinho, which is situated in the Upper Corgo subregion of the Rio Torto Valley.

Cold, rainy winter. Budburst and flowering occurred in the usual periods under normal conditions, but seemed to predict a relatively small yield. Temperatures in June and July was below average with a bit of rain. August was very hot, causing the grapes to reach a high level of maturity. Harvest began in September under high temperatures. The grapes were in good condition, very sweet but lacked a bit of acidity. The yield was loewr than expected however the quality was rather good.

In modern "lagares" – stainless steel open tanks where mechanical feet simulate treading of grapes. Fermentation was interrupted through the addition of grape brandy in order to preserve a certain degree of natural sweetness. Aged in Wiese  & Krohn's cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia, on the Atlantic coast, under the control of the Douro and Port Wine Institute. Bottled in 2011, with out being fined or filtered.

Food Pairing: Moderate room temperature. Combine this Vintage with Steak au Poivre or take it after meal with cheese, tarts, pies, cakes and berries.

1 x Krohn Quinta do Retiro Novo 2011 (Portugal)

AWARDED GOLD MEDAL: New Zealand International Wine Show

Deep red colour. Fully-bodied. Fruit aroma. Balanced tannins. Drinkable now but will profit from a long ageing in the bottle.

This Port was made from grapes grown in the Upper Corgo subregion in the Douro wine region, more precisely in the Rio Torto valley.

Wet and cold weather in winter. Good flowering conditions, but the vines had to be submitted to several treatments to avoid diseases. Extreme heat at the end of June caused damages to many vineyards and reduced the yield. Harvest started in the first days of September and was done in general under a favourable weather. Remarkable quality.

In modern robotized "lagares" – stainless steel open vinification tanks where robots simulate the human treading of the grapes, just like in the old times people softly crushed the grapes by their own feet in the traditional “lagares”. Fermentation was interrupted through the addition of grape brandy in order to preserve a certain degree of natural sweetness. Matured in Wiese & Krohn's cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia, on the Atlantic coast, under the control of the Port and Douro Wines Institute. Bottled in 2013 (7 308 bottles). Unfined and unfiltered – may throw a sediment and should be decanted before being served.

Food Pairing: Combine this Vintage with Steak au Poivre or take it after meal with cheese, tarts, pies, cakes and berries.
