Description
“The aromas in this wine are bright, with notes of herb, tire rubber and red currant, with the oak influence dialed back. The fruit flavors are lighter styled, direct and pure, going down easy with blue-fruit flavors on the finish. It’s a pleasant easy drinker" Wine Enthusiast, 2017
"Full, dark, deep ruby-red colour, a little lighter on the edge with slight garnet hues. The bouquet is full, open and broad with accessible aromas of savoury dark-red plum fruit along with berry fruits, a soft, earthy layering and nuances of dried herbs. This has a deep core with red fruits, notes of game and lifted red floral suggestions. Medium-full bodied, the palate is softly rich, and gently sweet and succulent with flavours of savoury, earthy dark-red plums and berried fruits, nuances of dried herbs and a little floral lift. The fruit forms a rounded core and is supported by light, fine tannin extraction. The wine flows along a fine-textured, near-velvety line, with soft acidity, leading to a sweet finish with red fruits and earthy elements. This is a soft, open and accessible Merlot with flavours of savoury, earthy plums forming a good, smooth-flowing core. Match with slow-cooked game meat and casseroles" Raymond Chan, 2018
The 2015 Harvest in Washington State started with an early spring bud break and continued into a warm summer. The fall turned out to be long and temperate, balancing out the heat, which gave great ripening to our fruit, bright acid, low alcohol and beautiful complexity.
Sundance: One of the oldest vineyards on the Wahluke Slope, planted in 1997. The site is topsoil over gravel, sand, and broken down basalt with more caliche than other sites in the Wahluke. The vineyard, because of its aspect, is also a later ripening site allowing for great concentration.
Art Den Hoed: 250 acres over the south slope of the Rattlesnake Mountains in the Yakima AVA at 1,300 feet elevation. The excellent air drainage and higher elevation work to preserve the natural acids in the grapes while flavors mature.
Goose Ridge: This 2,200 acre vineyard receives less than 8 inches of rainfall annually. It is a gently sloped, south-facing site adjacent to Red Mountain. Long, warm summer days and cool nights produce grapes noted for their ripe, rich character.
Weyns: Located in the Royal Slope area, which is part of the Columbia Valley AVA. It is about 1,000 feet elevation on sandy loam soils.
Hawk: 150 acres in the Wahluke Slope that was planted in 2010. The site has an elevation of 750-850 feet with a gentle southwest slope and has alluvial, sandy soils.
Oasis: Located in theYakima Valley, this higher elevation site is located on the north edge of Yakima Valley. It has silt-loam soil that allows proper drainage.
Purple Sage: Located on the Wahluke Slope, this site is made up of sandy, alluvial soils.
Food Pairing: Match with slow-cooked game meat and casseroles
