1 x El Mondongo Old Vine Garnacha 2015 (Spain)

Awarded 18.5/20 Points: JancisRobinson.com

AWARDED 92/100 POINTS: Guia Peñin

AWARDED 92/100 POINTS: The Wine Advocate

"The nose is unbelievably herbal and spiced, very complex bouquet (thyme, rosemary, medicinal herbs). The fruit is below the herbal layers; it has an elegant and fragrant expression. This is a classy Garnacha style – fresh, delicate and far removed from the orthodox powerful style. The fruit and the tannins are extremely mellowed. It is a Burgundian style of Garnacha. Like entering a herbal remedy store! This is at the pinnacle of delicacy for Garnacha. Amazing!" JancisRobinson.com

Wildly aromatic with notes of wild red fruits and spice. The Syrah brings flesh and freshly ground pepper to the mix, whilst the subtle seasoning of Moristel, Garnacha Blanca and Bobal (locally known as Provechon) add gentle notes of lemon thyme and other Mediterranean herbs (ajedrea). A classic field blend from 5 parcels that redefines the concept of Old Vine Garnacha in Aragón.

The fruit for this wine was grown on up to 77-year-old vines.

This wine is the result of blending four old vineyards planted mostly to Garnacha and a few other grape varieties plus a fifth plot planted to Syrah. Profound and captivating wild herb (thyme, scrubland and chamomile) aromas. The palate is fruit-driven and refined with a lovely enveloping texture. A real must for Garnacha lovers. Interesting to note that the wine is aged in egg-shaped tanks, not oak.

1 x Castillo de Almansa Selección 2013 (Spain)

Awarded Gold Medal: Citadelles du Vin 2018

Awarded Gold Medal: Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2018

Dark ruby red with an intense and complex nose of spicy wild plums, prunes and roasted peppers. Vibrant and elegant on the palate with good structure, balanced acidity and firm polished tannins. It is full bodied with a lingering, silky finish. Best served at 16-18 °C.

750-950 metres altitude, 65-90-year-old dry-farmed pre-Phylloxera Monastrell, Garnacha Tintorera and Tempranillo bush vines from the winemakers oldest vineyard (up to 90-year-old vines) plots and trellised Syrah vines, organic farming methods, nutrient-poor and limestone-rich soil, scarce rainfall.

Tempranillo grapes are harvested in the second week of September, Garnacha Tintorera and Syrah grapes at the end of September and Monastrell in the third week of October. The grapes for this wine are chosen from the best plots on our estates, hand-harvested for higher concentrations of tannins at the optimal moment of phenolic ripeness for each variety. Maceration takes place during 22 days at 29 °C with manual pumping of the young wine. Once racked the wine on its lees undergoes manual bâtonnage up to once a month after malolactic fermentation. The four varieties are then blended for ageing in 500 litre fine grain French Allier oak casks for up to 14 months. The wine is then bottled unfiltered to mature for a further 18 months prior to release.

Food Pairing: Enjoy this wine with hearty dishes for the coming 5-10 years. A huge, brooding blockbuster red to match the richest meat dishes.

1 x Manga del Brujo Ancient Vine Garnacha 2013 (Spain)

awarded 93/100 points: Guía Peñin

awarded 91/100 points: The Wine Advocate

Ancient Vine Garnacha 70% , Syrah 15%, Tempranillo 10%, Mazuelo 5%.

2013 is the tenth vintage of this cuvée dedicated to the history and culture of Calatayud and is designed to be a more serious wine with a style and structure more suited to food. To this end we have used barrel components with higher toast and parcels with more tannic structure and minerality. The name literally means "The Sorcerer's Sleeve" and it is made from a unique blend of Grenache, Syrah, Tempranillo and Mazuelo (Carignan) made in a distinctive Rhône blend which marries the Old and New World in terms of style. The wild mountain herbs amongst the vineyards give rise to the distinctive aromas and garrigue character in the wine. The Garnacha element was carefully sourced from only the highest altitude selected from 70-100 year old vineyards on the slopes of Monte Armantes, predominantly from the Campillo vineyard area, yielding no more than 18hl/ha. Syrah comes from the rocky, slate studded Jiloca valley soils and the Tempranillo was sourced from selected parcels with vines over 25 years old. This blockbuster red is delicious now.
