Description

  • Fresh tropical fruit
  • Sweet pea
  • Blackcurrant
  • Crisp & mineral

Lifted notes of blackcurrant bud, passionfruit, mango and sweet pea, underpinned with citrus notes. An unctuous palate with pure, concentrated fruit flavours balanced by a deliciously long, crisp mineral finish. Enjoy now, or cellar up to 2 years.

The 2019 growing season in Marlborough was a hot and dry one. We received small amounts of rain around the end of December, but then no further until late February. These rain events had very little impact on soil moisture levels, but helped to replenish our rivers, setting us up nicely to see us through to harvest. Vintage started in mid-March and it provided us with incredibly stable weather. This meant we could pick blocks at their optimum, without having the pressure from weather events like we have experienced in other years. The resulting wine is showing the wonderful hallmarks that our Awatere vineyards are known for – highly aromatic fruit flavors, with underlying purity and minerality.

Carefully selected parcels of Sauvignon Blanc from Yealands Seaview vineyard in the Awatere Valley were used to create this wine. The perfect weather conditions allowed the fruit to be harvested with ideal ripeness and flavour. At the winery, the fruit was destemmed and gently pressed. The juice was cold settled for 72 hours, after which the clear juice was racked off for fermentation. The individual parcels underwent a long cool fermentation in stainless steel using a range of carefully selected yeasts, to capture and enhance the wines fruit flavors and varietal characters. The wine was then blended, stabilised and filtered in preparation for bottling.

Yealands wine is inspired by the coast that surrounds us, so close to the ocean that their vines are often misted with sea spray. The beauty of the environment influences how their winemakers craft wine, respectful of nature and their land. Yealands believes in sustainable winemaking and creating thoughtfully crafted wines that work in harmony with the landscape. The Reserve collection brings together the finest fruit from select sites within their vineyard to create a range of premium wines that showcase the best of both their variety and the region.
