Description

Sicily is part of Italy’s ancient winemaking traditions, yet this island in the Mediterranean Sea is also producing some of the country’s most modern and exciting wines. For many years Sicilian wine was destined to be sold in bulk or used to make the fortified dessert wine. Today, quality Sicilian wines are the region’s focus with the rich silky reds made from Nero d’Avola leading the charge.  Sicily has abundant warmth and sunshine, providing near perfect conditions for Nero D’Avola and this Gold Medal winning mix is a perfect introduction to the region and wine styles, each wine unique and showcases the potential of this region of Italy.

Food Pairing: You'll want to enjoy this mix the authentic Italian way served alongside delicious Italian Bresaola, Prosciutto & Mortadella.

Collection includes:

2 x Miopasso Nero D’Avola 2017 (Italy)

AWARDED DOUBLE GOLD MEDAL: Sakura Wine Awards 2019

RECOMMENDED: Decanter Magazine

RECOMMENDED: International Wine Challenge

"Deep, purple/red with an incredibly intense nose featuring black pepper and spices. The palate offers layers and layers of fruit with bursts of dark berry fruit, offering excellent balance and complexity, with a soft, long finish" Winery Notes

Ridiculously delicious. It is made using the 'Apassimento' method of production where a portion of the grapes are air-dried before fermentation and is best-known as the standard method used for producing the blockbuster Amarone wines of Veneto in northern Italy. But used here in sunny Sicily the result is an explosively fragrant, concentrated, rich and flavourful wine with fabulous length and freshness on the finish. Exciting stuff, really one of the
most interesting reds we've found in ages.

2 x Canapi Sicily Nero D’Avola 2018 (Italy)

Awarded Gold Medal: Gilbert & Gaillard International Challenge 2019

We're in love with the great value wines of Sicily. And nothing we've found so far is a better advertisement for them than the 'Canapi' wines. One of our biggest-selling wines, Canapi Nero d'Avola is fantastic example of the ripe, plummy, super easy-drinking reds that are coming out of Sicily these days.  The Gold Medal winning 2018 Canapi is full of ripe red berry aromas and flavours supported by soft tannins.

2 x Nero Oro Nero D'Avola Appassimento Sicilia DOC 2018 (Italy)

AWARDED 93/100 POINTS & 5 STARS: Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

AWARDED 91/100 POINTS & GOLD MEDAL: Gilbert & Gaillard International Challenge 2019

AWARDED GOLD MEDAL & BEST VALUE: China Wine & Spirits Awards

"Gorgeously fruited and wonderfully fragrant, the wine shows blackberry, blueberry jam, warm spice, cocoa and roasted hazelnut characters. The palate is equally satisfyingwith excellent weight and succulent mouthfeel, well complemented by plush texture and velvety tannins. Flavoursome and fabulous drinking" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

Nero Oro make a selection of the best Nero d’Avola grapes, which are picked by hand. They dry the grapes using two distinct methods depending on the area the grapes come from. Both methods have been used in Sicily for centuries. On the vine: Grapes are left on the vine for longer than usual, giving the most gentle and natural Appassimento process through dehydration on the vines. On racks: Grapes are left to dry on racks for 15 days. The grapes are dried until they have lost 10-15% of their original weight.
