Raymond Chan, Dec 2018

"Fresh and vibrant, this tasty Sauvignon shows lifted aromas of passionfruit, green rockmelon, nectarine and lemon peel on the nose, followed by a juicy palate that is lively and refreshing. The wine offers lovely fruit intensity backed by fine texture and crisp acidity, finishing long and attractive" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Nov 2018

"Bright, very pale straw colour, near colourless on the rim. The nose is soft and rounded in presentation with aromas of ripe tropical fruit with notes of passionfruit and fresh herbs. The aromatics are a little restrained, but harmonious and showing moderate depth. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate has sweetly ripe flavours of tropical fruits and passionfruit with ripe yellow stonefruits and herbal notes forming a rounded core and heart. The mouthfeel is soft with the palate possessing a very fine-textured line, with gently refreshing acidity providing some drive. The fruit sweetness carries to a moderately long finish. This is a soft and rounded, gently ripe, tropical fruited Sauvignon Blanc with fine textures and restrained acidity. Match with Asian fare over the next 2 years. Fruit from the ‘Waiata’ vineyard, cool-fermented in tank to 12.5% alc. and 5.1 g/L RS" Raymond Chan, Dec 2018

A delicate, pale green/gold colour in the glass. Perfumed floral notes and hints of passionfruit are underpinned by aromas of grapefruit and gooseberry that add zingy, citrusy notes and combine with hints of capsicum to enhance the nose. Classic tropical fruit and herbal notes have been derived from the careful selection of various areas of our best blocks in the Waiata Vineyard situated in the Waipara Valley. The full flavours and tight structure of the palate reflect the intrinsic qualities of the Waipara Valley vineyard. The wine has a broad spectrum of flavours, from ripe tropical through gooseberry, which is supported by a refreshing acidity and perfectly balanced residual sugar.

The 2018 Vintage in the Waipara Valley was typified by warm daytime temperatures, tempered by cool nights. An ideal summer ensured great vine health and fruit condition. The slightly later maturity of the Sauvignon Blanc meant that the fruit was in good condition to withstand the late-March rains. Harvesting of fruit was carried out in the second and third weeks of April.

The fruit was harvested at maximum flavour as assessed through frequent tasting in the vineyard by the winemaker. It was very gently pressed to avoid harsh phenolic extraction and the juice allowed to cold settle. The clear juice was fermented at low temperatures using a range of yeast renowned for their ability to enhance the Sauvignon Blanc aromas. A balanced amount of residual sugar was left in the wine to complement the acidity and to add palate weight and structure.

Food Pairing: Crumbed white fish with new seasons asparagus, new potatoes and aioli.
