Huon Hooke, Real Review 2017

"Beautifully perfumed and delightfully attractive, the bouquet shows raspberry coulis, dark plum, vanilla, toasted hazelnut and subtle spice notes. The palate is generously fruited and expansive, delivering sweet berry flavours backed by silky tannins. A gorgeous Rhône blend offering soothing mouthfeel and plenty of tasty flavours. At its best: now to 2020" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Mar 2018

Dark ruby colour in the glass. Prominent lifted, fresh aromas of both red and darker berry fruit sit alongside slightly more subtle glimpses of violet flowers and pepper spice. The vibrant red and dark berry fruit mix shows early on the palate too providing a pillowy, velvet like feel to the wine early on. This fruity opening envelopes a firm Mataro core driving down the middle. Some white pepper spice provides an additional layer of interest and super fine tannin presence privides some balance, containment and focus to the fruit which rolls right through to the end. Drink now to 2024.

A mild, and at times cool December and January saw ideal conditions prevail towards the end of the growing season in the region. The result was a measured pace of ripening early on in harvest before some warmer weather kicked things along and compressed the harvest somewhat. The resulting wines from 2015 show some genuine balance from the early mild weather and some real flavour depth and presence as a result of late season warmth and ripeness.

This blend of Granache (43%, Mourvèdre (30%) and Shiraz (27%) is a homage to the great wines of the Southern Rhône, but with a very Barossan accent. These three classic red wine varietes are blended to showcase the unique qualities of each whilst ensuring balance, purity of fruit and the utmost drinkability.

At Schild Estate you can still shake hands with family members from three generations who have become the family's heart. Schild Estate wines are created with authenticity and passion. From real earth in the Southern Barossa by generations of a family who have made that place their home.
