Description

"This is a super yummy sweet wine; the beautifully lifted bouquet shows dried apricot, honey, marmalade, warm spice and potpourri characters, followed by a succulent palate that is silky and smooth with moreish sweetness and well-balanced acidity, finishing long and luxurious. At its best: now to 2019" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Mar 2018

Bright straw, pale gold colour in the glass. Notes of fresh citrus, orange marmalade and a delicate white flower perfume. A full, round front palate derived from the retention of natural grape sugras and the presence of some nectarine, white peach and floral notes provides a hint of lushness. This is followed by glimpses of subtle oak spice and a clean acid finish which proves some freshness and line to the wine and ensures it retains an element of refreshingness to counter balance the sweetness.

The 2012 vintage was characterized by mild daytime temperatures and cooler nights. Winemakers saw enough sunshine to see good flavour and sugar development and with a distinct lack of any sustained hot spells it was also a year where the pace of ripening was slow, steady and easily manageable. Whilst conditions were not conductive to Botrytis formation on the late harvest fruit, the growing season allowed fruit flavours to concentrate and develop on the vine whilst still ensuring bunches remained in optimum health and retained natural acid and balance deep into the season.

At Schild Estate you can still shake hands with family members from three generations who have become the family's heart. Schild Estate wines are created with authenticity and passion. From real earth in the Southern Barossa by generations of a family who have made that place their home.

Lorraine Schild has been the backbone of the Schild family since her marriage to Ed in 1962, raising four children, working full time herself and supporting Ed in all his ventures. She is truly the unsung hero of the Schild Estate operation and having made a wine in Ed's honour, they just couldn't let the opportunity pass without doing the same for Lorraine. In recognition of her dedication and efforts over many years and knowing her love for an odd glass of dessert wine on occasion, it seemed logical for us to see if we could make something in this style worthy of putting her name on it. Sourced appropriately from the Semillon vines right outside Lorraine's home this is a new challenge for our winemakers and one that will keep them tinkering and refining over many vinatges to get a result worthy of the first lady of Schild Estate.
