Description

"The wine is sweetly fruited and beautifully perfumed on the nose showing dark plum, raspberry, floral and subtle spice characters, followed by a juicy palate that is supple and flowing. The wine offers excellent fruit purity and vibrancy, wonderfully framed by supple tannins. At its best: now to 2023. Certified organic" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2019

"Quirky label, lacquer, cherry (halves and maraschino), sweet pouch tobacco, roast walnut and dark raspberry. A palate full of chewy tannins, toasted spice and charry meatiness. Plenty of dark spice fun on offer" Regan Drew, 'Wineries say not to nasties', Feb 2020

This is a classic example showcasing ripe red berries with blood plum and mulberry fruit, brown spices, milk chocolate with soft supple tannins. A medium weighted, food friendly wine style that abounds with generosity of flavour whilst maintaining its fresh and easy-going nature. This wine is organic and vegan friendly.

A cool start to the growing season with plenty of rain events throughout Spring ensuring vine health and vitality was optimised. Although the average Summer temperature was higher than normal, the region didn’t experience any extreme heat days. The late start and the warm days delivered exceptionally complex, intensely flavoured berries whilst maintaining a fine natural acidity in most cases. Tannins and flavours achieved optimum ripeness and this should be considered a very good year.

Suited perfectly to the region, Nero d'Avola thrives with warm summer days, developing generous soft flavours whilst maintaining fresh natural acidity. The fruit was picked and delivered to the winery and was chilled overnight before a relatively cool fermentation in small fermenters with ten percent bunch inclusion. The wine was then matured in a combination of steel tank and second use French oak before bottling with minimal fining and filtration.

The Indigo Grape Growers Collective is a modern range of Organic wines sourced and crafted by a small number of like-minded vignerons from their organically grown vineyards in the historic wine regions of North-Eastern Victoria. Though collectively known as the greater Indigo region, more specifically the fruit for these wines was grown in the heart of Rutherglen and neighbouring Glenrowan, famous for producing warm, fuller bodied wine styles with rich flavours and heady aromatics. These wines are part of a progressive generation that choose sustainable organic farming as well as crafting wines that are suitable for vegans.
