Description

"Quite a rich, gutsy red with bright, fresh berry and violet flavours that dominate spicy oak influence. A backbone of moderately firm tannins balances any fruit-and-alcohol sweetness giving a dry and rather spicy finish. Good value at this price" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Apr 2019

"Richly fruited and generously expressed, the gorgeous bouquet shows dark fruit, cocoa, vanilla, game and warm spice aromas, leading to a succulent palate that is beautifully weighted and plump. A delectable modern rendition offering delightful fruit richness and plush texture, firmly structured by loads of fine, polished tannins. At its best: now to 2021" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Sep 2018

"Very dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red colour, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is elegantly firm with ripe and sweet aromas of red berry fruit entwined with a layering of dark herbs and subtle notes of earth, unfolding savoury dark-red florals. Aromas of black cherry and berry fruit emerge with aeration. Medium-bodied, the palate has sweetly rich, up-front and juicy, uncomplicated flavours of cherries, raspberries and plums along with subtle notes of dark herbs and earth. This has lifted florals and hints of confectionary from whole berry fermentation. The flavours are up-front, succulent and mouthfilling and are supported by supple tannin grip with soft acid liveliness. The flavours carry to a juicy, fruity, aromatic finish. This is a sweet and juicy, upfront Rioja Tempranillo with cherry raspberry and plum flavours with confectionary lift on a supple palate. Match with tapas, pasta and barbecued fare over the next 3 years. Tempranillo fruit from Rioja fermented to 13.0% alc" Raymond Chan, Sep 2018

Palacio Oriente is made by Bodegas Valoria, barely 5 kilometres from Logroño, right on the road to Santiago very near the Grajera Natural Park. Bodegas Valoria was founded by the Pérez Foncea family of Fuenmayor in 1860 is one of the oldest and best-known wineries of the La Rioja DO. The winery now exports 70% of its production to 60 countries. A traditional blend of Tempranillo, Graciano and Mazuelo. After selecting the best small bunches, temperature controlled  fermentation and maceration is carried out in stainless steel  to preserve fruit freshness before maturation  for 8 months in American oak barrels before release.

Only gave this wine 4 stars because it's quite Young. Very fresh and feisty at the moment ,was much better the next day but still think it needs time to mellow, Most of the Spanish wines on Black Market have more age. It has good acid and the oak stands out a little too much, but it does have good fruit depth. Very good value at this price.
