Description

  • Un-oaked
  • Elderflower
  • Lemongrass & citrus zest
  • Soft white pepper

"A 60-40 blend, the 2018 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc co-fermented and then aged 11 months in a single concrete egg. There’s no oak, although the nose offers up spicy, honeyed and toasty notes that suggest it, alongside preserved lemon and ripe fig. It’s medium-bodied, with a plump, silky mouthfeel and a long, harmonious finish. I suggest drinking it young, as there’s no real track record, but its Sémillon content may propel it to greater longevity" Robert Parker Wine Advocate, Apr 2020

"Everyone effued about this wine. A Semillon-dominant classic Bordeaux white blend, this wine comes from grapes grown on an organic and bio-dynamically farmed vineyard in the main Wairau Valley region of Marlborough. The fruit is hand-picked and whole-bunch pressed, then naturally fermented and aged in concrete egg for 11 months. Elderflower, greengage, citrus zest, marmalade and gooseberry were all descriptors that came out. This was a complex wine with a good body and long finish. You could not as for a better Summer white wine" Metro Top 50 Wines 2020

"Aromas of freshly-baled pea-hay, lemongrass and soft, white pepper characters co-exist with lime and nettle notes in a beautifully balanced, mineral-driven mouthfeel that is just delicious. Certified organic and very classy in the glass, it’s gorgeous" Yvonne Lorkin, Yvonnelorkin.com

This Semillon Sauvignon Blanc is grown on an organic and biodynamically farmed vineyard in the Wairau Valley region of Marlborough. A 1Ha stony vineyard 100m above sea level, located on stony alluvium soils on the free draining valley floor. Facing North, these vines are 24 - 27 years old. Organically and Bio–dynamically farmed.

Kelly Washinton's inaugural vintage, 2017, will be one that they will always remember for a variety of reasons. It was challenging, due to a cool summer and late ripening, but careful management from their growers ensured crops levels were kept in balance and the resulting fruit quality was sound. Vibrant flavours, bright acidities, elegance and an overall fine precision– this is what the vintage gave to us, and what we see has translated into the wines

The fruit is handpicked and whole bunch pressed, then naturally fermented and aged in a concrete egg for 11 months. This adds to the elegance and texture of the wine with Semillon demanding to play the leading role.

At Kelly Washington they seek the most unique and diverse parcels of high quality fruit, which they translate into their elegant and honest wines. Working with such exceptional fruit, their aim is to is to showcase and explore sub regionality of New Zealand's wine growing regions, but moreover making wines of provenance. In many cases, these special sites are farmed organically and bio-dynamically. Therefore it is important for them to take these philosophies into the winery and beyond.
