Description

"A splendid expression of the variety, the wonderfully lifted bouquet shows apricot, lemon curd and floral characters with nuances of spice and toasty complexity. The palate displays excellent weight and concentration, delivering wonderful fruit intensity and fine texture, brilliantly structured by bright acidity, finishing persistent and vibrant. At its best: now to 2020" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

"Full, light golden-yellow colour with some depth, paler edged. The bouquet is full with waxy stonefruit and lanolin aromas intermixed with herbs and green stonefruits, complexed by some toasty, earthy and honied elements. This shows secondary development. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate has a weighty heart of waxy, citrus and herbal fruit with lanolin notes and secondary savouriness. Bottle-age has intensified the flavours to show toast, earth and honey complexities. The mouthfeel features fresh acidity and the wine is racy in flow. A concentrated core of flavours carries to a sustained finish. This Grüner Veltliner has intensified with bottle age to show waxy and lanolin flavours with honey toast and earthy nuances on a weighty palate with acid zestiness. Serve with Mediterranean fare over the next 2 years. Fruit 60% from ‘Brancott’ in the Southern Valleys and 40% ‘Home’ block, Wairau Valley, fermented in tank with 5% in barrel to 12.5% alc. and 2 g/L RS, the oak portion aged on lees" Raymond Chan, Sep 2018

An alluring nose of fresh white flowers, chamomile tea, white pepper and lemon zest. Bright pale straw coloured, it’s instantly appealing in the glass. To taste; white pepper and stone fruits with just a hint of allspice. And the palate - very complete; it’s full, well rounded and persistent; finishing perfectly crisp and refreshing.

Vintage 2015 will be remembered as a very low cropping year – 40% down on the record 2014 or 20% below the longer term average. For producers interested in quality over quantity, it was an ideal year. No need for expensive fruit thinning and less leaf plucking made for an easy growing season. Harvest was 7 – 10 days early, around 20th March and was pretty much over by the second week of April. Just as well as Easter, like 2014, again proved wet. The resulting wines look impressive, great flavours, intense aromatics and lenghty palate weight.

Grüner Veltliner (pronounced Grew-ner Velt-lee-ner) is Austria’s signature white grape varietal and is grown in most of its wine regions. It produces wine styles ranging from dry and mineral from the rocky hillside sites, to aromatic rich wines from the deeper loess soils. Winemakers planted their Grüner Veltliner on their Southern Valleys vineyard - a very special site; geologically older soils of crushed river stones, intermixed with clay, free draining and naturally devigourating, which makes it ideal for premium grape production. All varietals grown on this terroir display a more exotic flavour profile, richer palate and distinctive "biscuity" minerality than those grown on the Wairau gravels of the valley floor.

The grapes were machine harvested in the cool of the morning, cold settled and cool fermented in stainless steel tanks prior to blending and finishing for bottling in spring.
