Description

"It is fabulously fruited and inviting, the bouquet shows Black Doris plum, dark cherry, violet, cocoa and subtle spice characters, leading to a succulent palate that is plump and fleshy. It is modern and brightly expressed with lovely smooth mouthfeel, finishing long and attractive. At its best: now to 2021" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2019

The nose is opulently fruited with a depth of dark berry aromas, sweet spice and pepper. The palate is bright and expressive with a burst of mouth-filling ripe berry flavours with varietal cherry cola and smoked spiced before supple tannins and subtle oak provide definition to the impressively long finish.

The vast, high and dry plains of Castilla la Mancha comprise over 50% of Spain's vineyards. The ancient soils and high altitude ensures the richly flavoured fruit maintains structure and tannin. Vineyards planted on the slopes of mountain ranges in the north and north east add a degree of elegance to the wines.

Following a very hot and dry vintage across Spain, late Autumn rains complicated an already delayed harvest. The rains performed a much needed task in refreshing the vines and ensuring the fruit maintained vibrance but also reducing yields. The old established vines along with the cooler climate of the higher altitude of Manchuela weathered the conditions well producing a small crop of high quality fruit.

Totally de-stemmed with a short cold soak before a long, cool fermentation with daily pump-overs to achieve optimum fruit and colour. The core of the blend was aged in stainless steel before six months maturation in seasoned French and American oak. A component of up to twenty ercent Rioja Tempranilloaged in French oak os added to the blend three months before bottling.

Superb. Will buy again.

A lovely full bodied wine, very moorish and as a result the first half dozen bottles didnt last long and so another order was placed in pretty rapid succession.
