Description

"This 2016 Central Otago Pinot Noir is a clear, deep red-black in colour. Enticing cherry and cherry blossom combine with a haunting aromatic sweetness and a touch of cream; there's fresh mixed spice, too, to lend complexity to the mix. On the palate, this is an almost juicy Pinot with more of the cherry fruit promised by the wine's aromas. There is fine-grained tannin here too, though, and the fruit has a concentration and finesse to it which keeps drawing you back to the glass. It's lively to the last, thanks to its almost sweetly ripe acidity. Charming, head-turning Pinot from the promising Bannockburn sector of Central Otago" Decanter Asia Wine Awards 2018

"A gorgeously styled pinot, the inviting bouquet shows dark cherry, plum, violet, toasted almond and olive characters, followed by a succulent palate that is plump and rounded. It is elegant and fabulously poised, delivering fruit richness as well as refinement, wonderfully framed by fine, polished tannins" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Nov 2018

"Vibrant ruby-red colour with moderate depth, lighter on the rim with slight purple hues. The nose is elegant in proportion with fine and intense fragrant aromas of dark-red cherry and berry fruit with a subtle amalgam of fresh and dark herbs and lifted dark-red and violet florals, hints of whole bunch stalk elements and a little spice. The aromatics form a fine core,  Medium-bodied, the palate is refine, but possesses lush, sweet and succulent flavours of red cherries and berries, dark-red and violet florals, with notes of herb and spice.  The fruit forms a finely concentrated core and is underlined by fine-grained tannin structure and enlivened by soft, fresh acidity. The wine carries to a lingering finish.  This is a lusciously sweet-fruited Pinot Noir with red cherry and berry fruit and fragrant florals on a fine-grained palate. Match with poultry and pork dishes, and Asian cuisine over the next 5-6 years. Hand-picked fruit from Bannockburn, fermented with 25% whole bunches on average to 13.5% alc., the wine spending 3-4 weeks on skins and aged 11 months in 22% new French oak barriques" Raymond Chan, Nov 2018

"Intensely fruity single vineyard pinot noir from the Bannockburn subregion of Central Otago. Strong plum, dark cherry, spice, anise, thyme and nutty oak flavours. Power and purity with plenty of punch" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Aug 2018

"This lovely young red is a single-vineyard Bannockburn wine, estate-grown and matured for 11 months in French oak barriques (22% new). Deep ruby, it is finely perfumed, mouthfilling and supple, with strong, vibrant cherry, plum and spice flavours, excellent complexity, fine-grained tannins and a lasting finish. A notably graceful red, it should break into full stride 2020+" Winestate Magazine May/Jun 2018

A bright garnet colour with aromas of sweet cherry, raspberry, cedar, wild thyme, and mushroom. Powerful yet elegant, this Pinot Noir has red and black berry, wild herb and distinctive earthy flavours complementing a richly textured palate. Silky and seamless with vibrant fruit, enticing layers, and a serious structure with so much finesse. Harmonious and rich, this Pinot Noir is drinking beautifully as a young wine and should continue to show its beauty for 10-12 years.

The 2015/16 growing season was relatively warm with fewer frosts and very little disease pressure in Spring and late Autumn. Summer was relatively dry with good periods of warm days and cool nights. Pinot Noirs from this vintage are powerful and richly fruited, with great aging potential.

This wine is a single vineyard Pinot Noir from a highly awarded site in Bannockburn. The fruit was hand harvested at optimal ripeness with harvest dates ranging from early to late April 2016. Seven ferments went into the blend ranging from 0-50% whole bunches per fermenter with the resulting blend having around 25% whole clusters which aids the tannin structure and aromatics of the wine. The total time on skins ranging from 3 to 4 weeks. The wine was aged in fine grain French Oak: 22% new oak, 40% one year old and 38% in 1-5 year-old barriques for approximately 11 months. The winemaking intention was for transparency in order to showcase the great personality of this Bannockburn site in a vintage that is truly elegant and graceful.
