Description

  • Oak spice
  • Black cherry
  • Ripe cranberries
  • Silky tannins

"The wine is attractively fruited and fragrant on the nose showing ripe plum, dark cherry, olive, spice and floral characters, followed by a succulent palate that delivers juicy fruit flavours together with smooth mouthfeel and silky tannins. Well proportioned and delightfully drinkable" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Apr 2019

The 2017 River Delta Pinot Noir displays rich aromas of black cherry and blackberry bramble. The palate is packed with ripe flavours of cranberries and red cherries, with a full body and silky texture. Oak spice and coffee notes are balance by a fresh, lingering finish. This Pinot Noir is drinking well now and will continue to impress for the next 5 years.

This fruit was sourced from a selection of vineyards throughout Marlborough. Each vineyard's yield is managed carefully and fruit is monitored throughout the ripening season. The grapes were harvested upon reaching the desired flavour spectrum and maturity.

From flowering through to ripening, the 2017 growing season was warmer than usual, although the typically cool nights in Marlborough allowed the retention of fresh fruit flavours and bright acidity. The grapes were harvested in the cool of the morning at optimum flavour maturity. Each vineyard parcel was held cool for five days prior to fermentation. Selected yeast strains were used for the primary alcoholic fermentation during which the must was hand plunged six to eight times daily. Once malolactic fermentation was completed, the wine was then carefully blended and gently prepared for bottling.
