Description

  • Oaked
  • Plum
  • Chocolate & mocha
  • Spice notes

"Powerfully graceful, this delicious shiraz shows blackberry, blueberry compote, vanilla, roasted hazelnut and pepper spice notes on the nose, leading to a richly fruited palate that displays excellent depth and concentration, wonderfully framed by polished tannins. Gratifying and terrific drinking. At its best: now to 2027" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Aug 2018

"It puts on a pretty seductive show. It offers a generous serve of plum, licorice and raspberry jam-like flavour and from start to finish it just keeps giving and giving. It's not subtle but it's highly effective" Campbell Mattinson, Wine Companion

The Barossa Valley component shows typical plum, red liquorice, chocolcate and mocha characters whilst the addition of the spicier, darker fruit of the cooler Eden Valley has added lift, interest and freshness. This is a contemporary Barossa Shiraz having spent maturation time in older oak adding subtle vanilla and match stick nuance but also softens it whilst maintaining freshness and vibrancy.

Winter and Spring of 2016 was much wetter than usual lifting the soil moisture levels for the region. December, January, and Febraury were all cooler than usual which prolonged the ripening period by 2-3 weeks. The slower ripening for the berries ensured a greater accumulation of complex character development that winemakers are often lauding in the better years. The fruit reached optimal flavour and tannin ripeness and will contribute to making very good wines.

Little Giant is crafted from fruit sourced from select premium vineyards of both the Barossa Valley and Eden Valley. Picked in the cool of the morning to retain freshness, the fruit is de-stemmed and fermented in stainless steel tanks. The wine the spent nine months in used large format French and American oak barrels to build structure whilst softening the palate and develop flavour complexity without overt extraction of oak characters.

The southern hairy-nose wombat is smaller than other wombats but is stocky, robust and the proud state emblem of South Australia. Like the might of the little wombat, Little Giant is crafted from premium regional South Australian fruit from established vineyards that deliver character and interest well above their size and weight. Hand-crafted and made with minimal additions and perservatives, these are wines made of the vineyard. The grapes are picked at optimal ripeness, minimally handled in the winery and fruit vibrancy is not hidden by non-essential artifact. Seeking first and foremost fruit expression, drinkability and to be a great accompaniment to food. Don't let the size fool you, these are wines you'll want to drink.

This is a bit different, almost comes across a slightly sour, I love it and have just come back for another 3 cases. Can’t wait to see how it ages.

I just love that Bull's blood from the Barossa.

Ray - 08/12/2019

Certainly has character and good balance of spicy flavours and tannins. Will surely improve with medium term careful cellaring
