Description
This Organic Riesling is Single Vineyard and low in alcohol - perfect for these hot Summer days! Medium-sweet, fragrant style which is reminiscent of a fresh, ripe apple delicately scented with citrus blossom. There is a lightness and crunchy liveliness to the feel of this wine in the mouth. The palate is concentrated and linear, bursting with juicy, sweet fruit up front and flowing seamlessly to a refreshing long, crisp finish.
This vintage presented cool, dry Spring conditions which slowed early season growth. Very dry conditions by late December let to water restrictions on the Waimea Plains. Conditions over flowing were settled and crops set at respectable levels. Throughout Summer, daytime temperatures were 2-3 degrees above average with warmer night time minimums also. Rain after Christmas broke the drought. Warmth and moisture promoted rapid canopy growth. Further extreme rainfall events in mid-February and again in March brought some disease pressure. Hand harvested, which began March 21st and was complete by April 6th. It gave fruit with atypical and unexpected balance. Sugars levels were lower than usual yet acids were beautifully ripe. 2016 was a year for lower alcohol wines which promise lovely aromatics, elegance an phenolic balance.
