Description

Classically Gisborne in style, this Mystery Chardonnay reveals concentrated melon and stone fruit characters. These are enhanced with complex brioche and vanilla notes from oak barrique fermentation and maturation on yeast lees. Its fullbodied palate unfolds layers of fruit and subtle mealy flavours which last through to the long finish.

The 2016 Gisborne season was characterised by a cool start followed by a combination of very warm Feb/March temperatures and some sporadic early vintage rain events. Overall this was an excellent season for Chardonnay. Clones 95, Mendoza and cl15 from several vineyard sites throughout the Gisborne region feature. 85% Handpicked, 15% Machine harvested. 100% barrel fermented in French and Hungarian oak including 35% new. 60% completed malolactic.

Food Pairing: A great match with most white meats particularly pork, rich seafood dishes and cheeses. Also highly enjoyable on its own.
