Bordeaux produced lovely, fruit forward wines in 2016. Just take this velvety, plum rich claret from the team at Château Haut Pougnan, beautifully situated in the Entre Deux Mers in Bordeaux.  This delivers amazing value for money. Merlot dominates this up front with Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc giving support. There is plenty of ripe cassis and black cherry fruit practically leaping from the glass in this greatly enjoyable, approachable wine.  It has won an amazing 6 Gold medals to boot!

"Wonderfully fruited and immediately appealing, the bouquet shows blackberry, blueberry compote, vanilla and roasted nut aromas, leading to a succulent palate that is brimming with rich fruit intensity. It is plump, fleshy and velvety, and finishes long and delectable. A fabulous modern rendition. At its best: now to 2020" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2018

1 x Fontella Chianti DOCG 2015 (Italy)

Awarded 91 POINTS & 4.5 STARS: Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

AWARDED 90/100 POINTS: James Suckling, jamessuckling.com

A glorious Chianti, Italy's best-known red wine! A region boasts some of the world's finest wines as well as fantastic food-friendly bargains that somehow always seem a little more 'grown-up' than most other comparably priced quaffers! Fontella is a traditional Chianti, being predominantly Sangiovese with a splash of Canaiolo and Colorino. Medium-bodied and easy-drinking in style, it is stainless steel fermented to maximise freshness and fruit expression. The resulting soft, harmonious flavours of dark cherry, plum, chocolate and marzipan make this wine taste like it could be three times the price.

1 x Valtier Crianza 2012 (Spain)

AWARDED GOLD MEDAL: Berlin Wine Trophy 2015

AWARDED 90/100 POINTS: Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Mar 2018

"This is a youthful charmer offering terrific fruit richness; lifted aromas of blackberry, cranberry, hazelnut, cocoa and subtle spice lead to a succulent palate that is plump and supple. The wine is filled with pristine fruit flavours, backed by savoury nuances, finishing long and delicately dry. At its best: now to 2020" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Mar 2018

This is ripe, fragrant and richly flavoured, showing dark plum, blueberry, almond and subtle spice notes on the nose. The palate is juicy and generous with excellent fruit purity as well as subtle savoury complexity, beautifully supported by fleshy mouthfeel and fine tannins. This is highly enjoyable, especially at this awesome price. At its best: now to 2018.
