Description

"This is a fabulously styled pinot gris; the fragrant bouquet shows white flesh nectarine, pear, mandarin and jasmine characters, followed by a succulent palate that is beautifully weighted and supple. The wine delivers gorgeous fruit purity backed by silky texture and bright acidity, finishing deliciously long and juicy. At its best: now to 2021" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Aug 2018

"Bright, even, straw-yellow colour with some depth. The nose is fresh and full with open and lively aromas of bright yellow stonefruits entwined with exotic florals, and suggestions of herbs and passionfruit, along with lifted pears. This has depth and is quite accessible. Dryish to taste and medium-full bodied, the palate is up-front, open and accessible with flavours of tropical fruits, exotic florals, pears and honeysuckle. The flavours form a concentrated core with good presence to the mouthfeel, and the wine flows along a smooth line with good acidity, carrying the flavours to a sustained finish. This is an up-front, openly accessible dryish Pinot Gris with stonefruit, floral, pear and honeysuckle flavours on a smooth-flowing palate with good weight. Match with Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 3 years. Marlborough fruit, 65% from Blind River, Awatere and 35% Wairau, fermented in stainless-steel" Raymond Chan, Sep 2018

Reserve Marlborough Pinot Gris displays aromas of rose petal florals combined with juicy white stone fruit and pineapple followed by interesting gingernut biscuit notes. The palate is rich and opulent. Sweet tropical fruit flavours, pineapple, rock melon and passionfruit finished with a savoury ginger spice. An off-dry wine which has lovely textural complexity and a lengthy finish.

The 2018 growing season in Marlborough was not without some challenges. December we enjoyed perfect flowering conditions, January was one of the warmest on record, February delivered some rain and March was characterised by extended dry periods and high sunshine hours. Despite all this, the fruit ripened nicely on the vines, earlier than normal, and we had clean, ripe and intensely flavoured fruit come harvest in April. Once in the winery, the fruit was gently pressed, the juice was clean racked and fermented with a selection of yeast strains in stainless steel and barrels to give a textural component to the wine.

Post-harvest, every year, each tank at our winery holds wine from single sites from around the Marlborough region. These wines are then taken through rigorous blind taste testing at the grading table until we have picked the very best wines that exhibit all the trademark characteristics we want in our Reserve Pinot Gris. This is the reason our wines have such concentrated, expressive flavours, year on year.

Nice palate weight and easy drinking. A step up from their non-reserve PG.
