Michael Cooper, Buyer's Guide 2018

Description

"Already drinking well, the 2015 vintage (4*) is a blend of Merlot (55 per cent), Cabernet Sauvignon (25 per cent) and Cabernet Franc (20 per cent). Matured for 18 months in seasoned French oak barrels, and bottled unfined and unfiltered, it is full-coloured and mouthfilling, with ripe berry, plum and spice flavours, showing good complexity, and gentle tannins. Still youthful, it should be at its best 2019+" Michael Cooper, Buyer's Guide 2018

Deep red colour in the glass. Wonderfully soft bouquet with deep, dark plummy notes. Elegant, chocolatey, smooth and plummy. This rich blend showcases vibrant red and dark fruits, a fresh underlying savoury character.

An integral part of these wines, Hawkes Bay’s maritime climate, microclimates and soil types provide a rich canvas of vineyard sites to work with. The winemaker has selected sites from some of Hawkes Bay’s finest winegrowing sub-regions that represent the ultimate varietal expression of the wines in their portfolio. Because of the tiny production of Collaboration wines, all of the vines are tendered by hand (with the help of family and friends) to ensure fruit of the highest quality is produced.

The 2015 growing season in Hawke’s Bay was cooler, resulting in longer hang time. The resulting wines show evidence of a cooler growing season with fresh acidity and vibrant redder fruit tones.
