Description

"From the Upper Awatere Valley, this delicious offering is filled with fabulous flavours of nectarine, feijoa, passionfruit and apple with a touch of kaffir lime note. The palate delivers excellent fruit concentration and intensity, brilliantly supported by fine texture and bright acidity. At its best: now to 2020" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Dec 2017

"Attractive aromatic, herbal and floral aroma. Pure and delicate sauvignon blanc with passionfruit, guava and lemongrass flavours. Dry with gentle, fruity acidity that helps drive a long-ish finish. Pretty wine" Bob Campbel, Master Of Wine, Real Review, Dec 2017

"Youthful, fresh, very fruity, lively and herbaceous bouquet. The palate shows off flavours of lemon and passionfruit, red apple and fuzzy-skin peach. A mix of stone and mineral notes adds some depth. Plenty of acidity, a coarse silk texture and balanced finish. Drink now and through 2020" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, 2017

"Bright, light straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, paler edged. The nose is taut and tightly bound, somewhat slender in proportion but with intense aromas of cool-spectrum cut-grass and nettle notes, with herbs and green capsicums. Some white floral notes unfold and intermingle with the herbaceous fruit. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate is elegant and slender in proportion, but showing deep and intense flavours in the cool-spectrum with cut-grass, nettles and herbaceous green capsicums and stalky elements. The palate has balanced acidity and the wine carries along a light-textured, refreshing line leading to a grassy and herbal finish. This is a slender and taut, cool-spectrum Sauvignon Blanc with herbaceous cut-grass and nettle flavours on a palate with balanced acidity and texture. Serve with shellfish and Mediterranean fare over the next 2 years. Fruit from the upper Awatere, cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 12.7% alc. and 1.5 g/L RS, the wine aged 3 months on lees" Raymond Chan, Oct 2018

This Mystery Sauvignon Blanc is distinctly aromatic with lifted notes of blackcurrant bud and citrus filling the glass. There is an abundance of fruit weight on the palate which is structured and well balanced, with refreshing mineral acidity.

The Upper Awatere is known for its rugged soils, unforgiving climate and stunning Sauvignon Blanc flavours. Strong winds, scorching daytime temperatures, and cool clear nights contribute to the development of the amazing flavours found in Sauvignon Blanc grapes. This Mystery Sauvignon Blanc is crafted by this terroir, creating wines that are pristine, refined and well balanced, with a strong sense of place.

The 2017 season was cool and slow and we worked hard to keep the canopy healthy and green throughout the season, allowing the vines to ripen the fruit before the significant rains of autumn arrived. Crisp, flavoursome fruit was harvested in the cool of the night to retain the refreshing acidity and finesse before heading to the winery.

Every year this Mystery Vineyard picks it Sauvignon grapes over several nights and each parcel is harvested for specific flavours to compliment the final blend. These parcels are processed and fermented separately under cool conditions and left on yeast lees to mature.
