Description

"This is super comforting and gratifying; lifted aromas of blackberry, vanilla, milk chocolate and cake spice lead to a concentrated palate that is fleshy and velvety. The wine is filled with gorgeous fruit flavours backed by silky texture and polished tannins, finishing long and attractive. At its best: now to 2023" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Jul 2018

This is plush with lifted red and blue berry fruit flavours layered with dark spice, fresh leather and black olive. The palate is loose and mouth-filling, driven long by fresh acidity and supple tannins. A serious wine suitable for all occasions – ready to drink now or with careful cellaring it will improve over the medium term.

Sourced from a combination of established, dry-grown vineyards in central South Australia and low-yielding McLaren Vale vineyards.  Wines are made and matured by Jim Zerella in McLaren Vale. A partnership with our Adelaide Hills and Langhorne Creek growers, Burns & Fuller is a range of contemporary and fruit driven varietal wines made by Jim Zerella, Each wine is fruit-driven and balanced with a core of fruit given complexity by a barren aged component.

Flowering and budburst were delayed due to the cooler, wet spring. A long ripening period ensued with resultant picking occurring much later than previous years. Crops were smaller but with excellent vineyard and canopy management and a warm summer our fruit reached optimal ripeness with additional character developed through extended hang-time.

The fruit is hand-harvested and vineyard sorted before de-stemming and cool fermentation in small two tonne open fermenters with regular hand plunging. Matured in seasoned French and American oak (30% new French) for nine months before bottling with minimal filtration and sulphur addition.

Pleasant enough and definitely drinkable but for me it probably needs another couple of years in the bottle
