Description
"Classic bouquet of Tropical fruits with mango and passion fruit laced with a cold steel edginess, fresh herbs and grapefruit. On the palate – lush, fruity, just dry and packed with flavours that reflect the bouquet; high ripe acidity, light weighted on the palate and finishing just dry. Balanced and well-made. Drink now and through 2020" Cameron Douglas, Master of Wine, 2017
"93pts... A highly enjoyable sauvignon, the beautifully fragrant bouquet shows passionfruit, feijoa, lemongrass and subtle musky characters. The palate is juicy and punchy, and delivers fabulous fruit intensity and vibrancy, beautifully supported by refreshing acidity. The wine is immediate and delicious. At its best: now to 2019." Sam Kim Wine Orbit, July 2017
Pale straw in colour, the nose is that of a classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc with aromas of passionfruit, green capsicum and red currant. A luscious passionfruit, black currant and mineral characters are found on the platate with a fresh acidity, silky texture and long lingering finish.
The fruit was sourced from a vineyard in Dillons Point, in the lower Wairau area of Marlborough. The Dillions Point sub-region has slightly cooler nights in summer due to its proximity to the ocean, even soils with high levels of available minerals, and excellent drainage due to sand from an acient riverbed lying benath the soil.
A warm growing season, with characteristically cool nights made 2016 an ideal vintage, and allowed concentration of flavours. Low rainfall eliminated disease pressure which resulted in high quality fruit. The grapes were harvested during the evening and transported promptly to the winery where they were pressed immediately to minimise skin contact. The juice was inoculated with cultured yeast and fermented at 12 degrees celsius to retain fruit flavour and freshness. The 2016 Delta Sauvignon Blanc is a wine of great concentration, with a classic spectrum of flavour. This single vineyard wine has layers of passionfruit, red currant and capsicum. A textural wine with mouth-watering minerality and herbal notes. Drinking beautifully now but best enjoyed over the next two years.
