Description
"Bright, light straw-yellow colour, pale on the rim. The nose is gently full with a rounded heart of white and yellow stonefruits long with pears and honeysuckle, nuances of exotic florals and some lifted fermentation esters. Dryish to taste and medium-bodied, the palate has a rounded core of harmoniously entwined flavours of white and yellow stonefruits, pears and florals with some honeysuckle nuances. The palate is well-balanced with moderate acidity and subtle, fine phenolic textures providing a gentle line leading to a softly fresh, aromatic-fruited finish. This is a harmonious and balanced off-dry Pinot Gris with stonefruit, pear and honied flavours, good freshness and soft textures. Serve with Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 3 years. Wairau Valley fruit fermented in stainless steel, with 10% in seasoned French oak to 13.0% alc. and 6 g/L RS"Raymond Chan, Nov 2017
"An instantly appealing pinot gris, the gorgeous bouquet shows yellow stone fruit, rockmelon, pear and orange peel aroma with a touch of floral lift. The palate is beautifully weighted and fleshy, delivering excellent fruit purity and vibrancy, wonderfully complemented by juicy acidity. At its best: now to 2019" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Nov 2017
The 2017 Pinot Gris is pale straw green in colour and offers intense aromatics to intrigue the senses. Lovely floral characters combine with fresh peach, pear and spice. On the palate, flavours mimic the bouquet with an off-dry style, creamy texture and layers of flavour.
A pioneer in the Wairau Valley, Grove Mill is dedicated to crafting premium wines with minimal environmental impact. The Southern Bell Frog, for which they established a wetland beside their winery, is a symbol of their commitment to preserve our land for the enjoyment of future generations.
The fruit for our Pinot Gris comes from some of the oldest vineyards in the Wairau Valley known for producing distinctively aromatic white wines. Shallow, rocky, fast-draining soils combined with the warm, dry climate make the region ideal for cultivating complex flavours and bright acidity. The grapes were harvested during the cold of the night to avoid unnecessary phenolic extraction and to preserve primary fruit. Gentle winemaking techniques and cold fermentation in stainless steel tanks helped to protect the bright fruit characters. Three months of lees contact after fermentation gave the wine great texture and richness.
