Description

"Fabulously fruited and flavoursome, the wine displays lifted aromas of ripe stone fruit, rockmelon, hazelnut and vanilla characters with a touch of flinty complexity. The palate is wonderfully weighted and succulent, delivering lovely fruit purity combined with elegant oak undertones, leading to a persistent delectable finish. At its best: now to 20201" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Jun 2018

The 2017 vintage of Grove Mill's Chardonnay is a bright straw colour in the glass and offers complex aromatics of white peach along with notes of toast and flint. Fresh citrus is
complemented by a bright acidity and a round satisfying mouth feel. A touch of oak provides support through the long finish.

A pioneer in the Wairau Valley, Grove Mill is dedicated to crafting premium wines with minimal environmental impact. The Southern Bell Frog, for which they established a wetland beside their winery, is a symbol of their commitment to preserve our land for the enjoyment of future generations.

The pristine fruit for this Chardonnay was harvested from some of the oldest vineyards located in the Wairau Valley. Good soil and canopy management, along with cold nights during ripening and a beautiful Indian summer, kept all the concentrated flavours in the grapes which you can taste now in the wine. The grapes were harvested during the cold of the night to avoid unnecessary phenolic extraction and to preserve primary fruit. Gentle winemaking techniques and ten months of lees contact while in French oak barrels give the wine a beautiful texture and richness.

Great value Chardonnay for the money, but not as good as the 2016 - maybe it needs more bottle time.
