Deep crimson in the glass offering dark fruit profile with dustings of white pepper spice on the nose...
Elsewhere $24.99 $21.73

Vibrant, clear crimson with youthful purple rim in the glass offering spicy red cherry, ripe blood plum aromas initially, opening up to attractively brambly and earthly bass notes. Squeaky clean and expressive nose. The palate is succulent, red and blue fruit flavours abound in this juicy, medium bodied charmer. There’s a perky line of acidity threading through it’s mouthwatering ripe blood plum flavours that are fresh and clear. Youthful, easy going quaffer, fresh and delicious.

Nessus was a centaur, a mythical half-horse half-man. Like all centaurs, Nessus was caught between two natures, the wild beast and the thoughtful teacher. Most famously, driven by his animal side, he made a bold play to steal the wife of Hercules. Ultimately, his clever plot ended tragically, with the death of both Nessus and Hercules.

The Nessus Shiraz is a fragrant, bright, and full flavoured wine which displays all of the trademarks of a McLaren Vale Shiraz. It is also a wine that captures the soft, silky and seductive tannins which are a distinctive feature of Mitolo Shiraz wines.

The Nessus Shiraz is sourced from Mitolo's vineyards at the southern end of McLaren Vale, close to the seaside town of Port Willunga. The rich, heavy clay soils and warm summer days produce a deeply coloured, full flavoured wine with soft, silky tannins. Shiraz fruit for the Nessus is crushed immediately after delivery to the winery, and the skin and juice mix is then allowed to warm naturally over the coming days. Fermentation is kept cool in order to retain the primary fruit characters in the wine.

Matured in older oak barrels, the Nessus Shiraz has an unobscured purity, a boisterous wild side, that competes with the restraining natural acidity; juxtaposed opposites delicately balanced just like the emotions of its namesake Nessus the centaur. Will drink best in its first two years.

First tasted in the Boulcott Street Bistro, Wellington. Full-bodied, great with steak, lovely finish. Liked so much that hunted the internet to buy our own. Lucky to find it at Black Market. Excellent service, too.

Pleasant but robust
