Description
"Youthful and beautifully fragrant, the bouquet shows Black Doris plum, cranberry, game, thyme and cedar characters with a touch of floral lift. The palate is succulent and silky, delivering pristine fruit flavours and fine texture, elegantly framed by polished tannins. A delightfully composed pinot showing vibrancy and delicate savoury nuances" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2018
An elegant complex style of Pinot Noir, this wine shows lifted aromas of herbs, game, blackberry, cherry and toasty oak. On the palate flavours of raspberry and ripe plum are wrapped in silky textures, concentrated fine tannins and a vibrant finish.
The 2017 vintage was a cooler than average growing season, which allowed for a long slow ripening period and a later than usual harvest, the fruit had lovely spicy flavours on the vine. This Mystery w9inery apply intensive canopy management and fruit thinning to their Reserve blocks to ensure even ripeness and concentration in the fruit. This Mystery Pinot Noir Noir represents some special parcels of fruit from our this Mystery vineyard's 'home' block, which sees a raised ridge of free draining rocky soil in Wairarapa. This vineyard is planted in several combinations of rootstocks and clones which gives us many options for blending complex wines.
Once in the winery different batches of fruit are processed separately so that the wine maker can see the individual characters on their own before adding further complexities by incorporating different techniques and yeast combinations. These small batches were placed in small open top fermenters. A cold soak was followed by traditional fermentation to extract flavour and colour, with the wines remaining on skins for up to 21 days before being pressed and run to barrel. The wine was aged in French oak Barriques for 9 months before being blended and prepared for bottling. This wine will be at its best: 2019 to 2023.
Food Pairing: An ideal match for spicy Duck and Lamb hot pot.
