Description

This delicious Montepulciano is full of soft, ripe black plums, with a nice smoky, aniseed character on the nose leading to a fine tannin structure and medium body. Whilst the palate is dry, with a finely textured ripe, plummy fruit.

Some wineries do such a great job of popularising the wines of a particular region that the association between the two becomes all but unbreakable: so it is
with Umani Ronchi and the wines of the Marche and Abruzzi. Over the past few decades, the company’s quest forever-better quality has led it to build up an estate of some 200 hectares of vineyards – 110 hectares in Verdicchio Classico, 60 hectares in Rosso Conero and 30 hectares in the Abruzzi.

Montepulciano is one of the most widespread indigenous varities in Italy, predominately cultivated along the Adratic side of the peninsula. The grapes for the Umani Ronchi's vinatge were hand harvested from the provinces of Chieti and Teramo during September and early October. These grapes were then macerated for 10 days and fermented in steel tanks. This juice was then matured in stell for 4 months. In this vinatge of Umani Ronchi's Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, they aimed to exalt the varietal characteristics and freshness, combining these qualities with just the right amount of charm and softness. The result is very pleasant and drinkable wine wich goes well with many different dishes. Best served at 18c in a medium or goblet sized glass to all the best appreciation of the complex aromas.

Food Pairing: Among the many dishes that work well with this wine, Lamb dishes are among our favourite here at Black Market. In particular we love Italian provencal lamb with Mediterranean vegetables or lamb and red pepper kebabs.
