Description

"Classic cigar box, mint and blackcurrant flavours come infused with smoky vanillin oak. It's midweight but finishes strong and varietally proud. This should develop beautifully" James Halliday, Wine Companion, 2017

"Classic Coonawarra, or, as the label says, Traditional Coonawarra. Spends 24 months in new and used French oak. If you've ever been to a winery and a winemaker has proudly showed you the new barrels and let you take a sniff of virgin oak, this is the scent that greets you in this wine. Cedary, smoky, splintery, like the woodwork shop at school. It's got blackcurrant and plum scents too, maybe mintiness, a whiff of earth. Medium bodied to taste, oak more backseat here but does provide some grip, missing some mid palate, but finishes with pleasing dark chocolate-raisin finish. Definitely an old school feel and the pleasure is in the ride of the palate" Mike Bennie, Wine Front, Jan 2017

The ‘cream of the crop’ the Family Selection wines represent the very best fruit, hand selected from the three Zema vineyard locations for intensity of flavour and varietal definition. Bigger and bolder than the Estate range, the Family Selection has richness and complexity, structure and depth of fruit, with a cellaring potential of at least a decade. An exquisite wine with all the characteristics of a classic Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon. Wonderfully rich, concentrated fruit flavours of blackberry and cassis, carefully balanced by natural acidity and finely grained tannins. Superb complexity and structure that will reward long term cellaring.

Grape growing and winemaking has been a large part of the Zema Family history and heritage dating back to the 1800s. Zema Estate is a true Coonawarra wine company, forged in Australia but based on the undeniable passions and traditions of its Italian heritage. Over four decades it has developed a reputation for producing premium quality Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, with a consistency that defies vintage and seasonal fluctuations. The strong Zema values that launched the winery have not changed - hand-pruning to nurture and foster each individual vine, careful fruit selection to ensure quality, enriching the fruit flavours through selected winemaking techniques, utilising the best oak barrels available and diligent bottle aging.
