Description
This stylish Merlot is produced from a special selection of grapes grown in the stony soils of our Irongate vineyard in the Gimblett Gravels region of Hawke’s Bay. It displays an attractive wealth of berry fruit and plum aromas, balanced by full-flavoured, soft tannin finish.
Made from a blend of (86%) Merlot and (14%) Malbec sourced from the Hawkes Bay region. These were de-stemmed at harvest, which took place in April 2014. In the winery these grapes saw crushing and pre-ferment skin soak to gain the beautiful rich colour. Later fermented in stainless steel tanks with various yeast species with extended skin contact to imporve the wine's complexity. Malolactic fermentation and aging for 10 months in barriques (20% new French Oak) were also employed. Recommended cellaring for this wine is 2-10 years from release.
Food pairing: The sweet-fruited soft finish makes it an ideal partner for ratatouille, or equally as good with Italian-style meatballs in a garlicky tomato sauce.
