Ogier has been based in Chateauneuf-du-Pape for over 150 years and has sought to raise awareness of this remarkable appellation. The company has gained a special understanding of the region. This GSM blend is a poduct of Ogier's hundered year old expertise and finest Rhone terroirs. Granache, Syrah and Mourdvedre grapes were sourced from selected forty year old vines and blended carefully to produce this wines full bodied palate of structured fruit with hints of mild spices. These vineyards are situated on the Villafrancien terraces of St Marcel d’Ardèche, on the hills of Avignon and Roquemaure – Sand from the 'Aigues' valley – and layered stones on slopes from the 'Plan de Dieu'. In the winery the juice spent 6 months in oak barrels called 'foudres' (4 to 40 years old) and 'cuves tronconiques' (12 years old)

2 x Ogier Clos de l'Oratoire des Papes Rouge, Chateauneuf du Pape AOC 2017 (France)

Certified organic

Intense ruby robe with beautiful reflections of old rose petals. Frank and spicy with black pepper and licorice, surprising floral notes of grass and acacia, evolving onto more classic notes of strawberry, cherry and fresh blackcurrant, and subtle notes of camphor and menthol. The attack is frank and ample, reflecting the gourmand and delicate characteristics of the Estate and magnificently held by fine tannins with a silky length, strengthened by the freshness of the menthol and scents of the garriques.

Seven generations of vigneron have tended to the Clos de l'Oratoire vineyard since planting in 1780. The label has remained unchanged since the original design of 1926 by the Amouroux family. Respecting the traditions rooted here is fundamental to the Ogier philosophy.

The vineyards of Chateauneuf-du-Pape are filled with what the French call 'Galets', huge stones that are scattered in and amongst the vines, which retain the heat of the day and radiate it to the vines during the night. Think of them like hot water bottles for vines to keep them warm at night!

Of the 13 grape varieties approved for use in Chateauneuf-du-Pape red wines, four are Organically grown and used to make up the Clos de l'Oratoire blend: Grenache (80%), and the balance in Syrah, Mourvedre and Cinsault.

Food Pairing: Pair with game, lamb shank, mushrooms, truffle roasted/braised meats, duck, stew/casserole, black pudding; and of course beef…in just about every form.

G
A really good collection of wine here. If you like Cote de Rhone I do find this collection has a bit more body than lower priced C.d.Rs, but still easy drinking. I would definitely buy again.
