Description
"Run by the young Roman Roche, who’s aided by Philippe Cambie, Domaine Roche is quickly becoming one of my favourite estates in Cairanne. A blend of 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah that was brought up mostly in concrete tanks (there was 20% of the blend in barrel), the 2015 Cairanne sports a deep, saturated purple color as well as sensational notes of ripe black cherries, blueberries, graphite, peppercorns and scorched earth. Deep, full-bodied, supple and incredibly sexy, with sweet tannin and fabulous purity, it should drink beautifully for 5-7 years" Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
Wines have been made in the village of Cairanne - founded by the Knights Templar - for centuries. In Roman's vineyards famous Châteauneuf style galets, or pudding stones, trap heat during the day and release it to the vines at night, helping to ripen grapes to perfection. Grenache brings plump red fruit and white pepper character to the blend, while Syrah introduces succulent blackberry notes and a savoury, spicy edge.
Food Pairing: Decant to show this wine off at its best and serve with hearty roast game (a favourite in the Rhône) or rack of lamb.
