Description

"Mellow, toasty Chardonnay with mineral, citrus, ginger nut biscuit and hazelnut flavours. Nicely structured with a silken texture and lengthy finish. Stylish wine with a distinctive character of its own" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Apr 2015

"'Very interesting lean, mealy layers on the nose, smoke, grapefruit pith on the palate – there’s a grain-spirit, sake-like character that I really like', said Yvonne. 'A big, fat, old-school, generous example that’s in good condition, developing nicely and is very drinkable' added Jo. Buttered toast, coriander seed and cinnamon notes all added to the delicious complexity of this ageing beauty" Cuisine Magazine, Top 10 New ZealandChardonnay Tasting, 2015

Fruit  for this Nystery Chardonnay was sourced  from  three  of  this Mystery vineyard's sites, including clone  15 from the Brancott  Valley with its crushed  stone  and  older  clay  soil (45%), clone  95  from  the  Gibson  Creek, where the soils are stony  alluvial  (40%) and  finally Mendoza  clone  from  a  sandy  Wairau  Valley  site 15%. This  combination  of  Wairau  Valley’s  stony  souls,  together  with  Marlborough’s  long  ripening  period  enhance this Chardonnay’s  classic  late summer fruit  flavours  and  fine  natural  acidity.  Aromas  of  lemon,  peach,  oat  biscuit,  toffe  apple  ,  toasted  almonds,  freshly  ground  spice  and  subtle  nutty  oak  lead    to  a  rich,  weighty  palate    balanced  with  a  seamless  acidity,  ensuring  longevity.
