Description

"This is beautifully styled, showing lifted aromas of white flesh nectarine, poached pear, fig and jasmine on the nose, leading to a succulent palate that is fleshy and silky. The wine offers terrific fruit purity together with fine texture and juicy acidity, finishing persistent and delectable. At its best: now to 2021" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, July 2018

"I am head over heels with this wine. Not because I naturally have the hand-eye coordination of a one legged pirate with glaucoma and a bad case of OOS, but because the exotic, pear strudel and apple pie richness of this gris has seriously got me in its grip. White peach, soft spices and a beautifully prickly freshness in the mouth makes this one of my superstar sips of the moment and one of the best 2018 wines I’ve tasted so far this year" Yvonne Lorkin, Aug 2018

On the nose this Mystery Pinot Gris is typically varietal, with pure aromas of melon, pears and citrus zest. The palate is supple and juicy, with luscious tropical fruit and a fine mineral thread, leading to a fresh and sustained finish.

The fruit for this Mystery Pinot Gris is grown on the free draining river terrace of this Mystery winery's home vineyard. Warm days and cool nights allow for a long ripening period guaranteeing ripe concentrated fruit while maintaining freshness.

The focus in the winery is to capture the pure fruit flavors that come from the vineyard, whilst adding complexity through our winemaking efforts to produce a multi-dimensional wine. This is achieved by tank fermenting the juice using yeasts that can ferment at low temperatures – preserving the essential fruit flavors.

Food Pairing: A great match with seafood, chicken or on its own with a chilled peach.

Backmarket can't afford to push out an inferior 'mystery' wine. This one (and its predecessor) ticks all the boxes. 10/10
