Description

"Ruby-red colour with some depth, lighter on the edge with slight purple hues. The bouquet is softly full and voluminous with aromas of dark red strawberry and red cherry fruit, unfolding a layer of red florals and subtly melded dark herb detail. The aromas are harmoniously entwined. Medium-full bodied, the palate is soft, rounded and harmoniously presented with gently mouthfilling flavours of dark red berry fruits along with soft red florals and nuances of dark herbs and spice. The mouthfeel is smooth and very finely structured with refined tannin extraction and integrated acidity. The palate builds in presence and leads to a full, sustained, fine textured finish of red fruits and florals with spice detail. This is a softly full, harmonious, red berry fruits and red florals with refined tannins. Match with poultry and pork over the next 5 years. Hand-picked fruit, clones 667 and 777, indigenous yeast ferment initiated then inoculated, to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 25% new French oak barriques" Raymond Chan, Sep 2016

This Mystery Awatere Valley Pinot Noir is a fabulous medium bodied fruit driven red wine. This wine combines appealing fruit richness with a savoury undertone, displaying aromas of red-Black plums, raspberries and boysenberries. Soft on the nose, the effect of the oak maturation is subtle developing silky tannins. It is nicely weighted and textured on the palate with lovely generosity, the finish lingering, spicy and delicately dry.

The 2014 was a steady growing season, with sufficient rains early in the spring, and good condiCons at flowering leading to a full fruit set. The summer was mild, and the fruit ripened steadily into vintage. Fruit cropping levels were about 10% above 'normal'.

This wine is a 100% Pinot Noir grapes sourced from Clones: 667 (64%), 777 (36%).This fruit was de-stemmed and fermented in stainless steel fermenters, where it went through a controlled fermentation using French yeasts. The cap was plunged up to 3 times a day during fermentation. Once finished, it spent some time on the lees, cooled and was pressed off to barrels. It aged for 10 months in 20% new French oak barriques, from Mercurey and Sylvain, to enhance the tannin structure and develop a real depth of flavour and palate weight to the wine. It will age perfectly over the next 5-8+ years. Closed with premium quality portuguese corks.

Food Pairing: Fine New Zealand Lamb, Asian Duck and Chicken dishes, Seafood dishes such as Salmon, Teraki, and Tapas including Chorizo, patatas bravas, pimientos asados or simply drunk for pleasure!
