Michel Gassier strives to make wines that express the nuances of their soils and the sincerity of their winemaker. Coming from a mix of vineyards in the north and southern part of the Costières, the 2015 Costières de Nîmes Syrah incorporates 3% Viognier and is always made with a northern Rhône style in mind. It sports a deep ruby color to go with ripe, full-bodied notes of blackberries, chocolate, smoked herbs and hints of meatiness. Rich and harmonious, the complexities of the aromas play out progressively. Its fresh finish with hints of red fruits and rhubarb reveals delicate and superbly ripe tannins. Textured, layered and impeccably balanced, with terrific depth, it's a total charmer to enjoy over the coming 3-4 years.

Food pairing: Chock full of violet, spiced red fruits, bacon, and hints of flowers, its soft, lush palate marries a wide range of food, from barbecue to spicy international fare.

We love the Carignan grape, especially when made from old vines which produce concentrated, intense and delicious wines. 2016 was a good, sunny vintage. On the nose, this wine has aromas of fig and garrigue herbs typical of ancient Carignan vines grown on hillsides. The palate is delicate, with a fine balance between taste and tannins, suppleness and acidity. A wonderfully rich, elegant example of this Languedoc grape variety.
