Description
A rich, complex Martinborough Chardonnay showing intense ripe stone fruit flavours underpinned by subtle oak, malolactic and barrel fermentation characters.
Nga Waka was established at Martinborough in 1988 and today remains a family-owned wine grower producing small volumes of fine Martinborough wine from estate-grown grapes. The name Nga Waka was chosen to reflect their sense of place, inspired by the three hills that form the for the town of Martinborough, which lie side by side like upturned canoes. Legend has it that the hills were formed by the three canoes of the famed Polynesian explorer Kupe, which were carried inland by a huge earthquake and came to rest in the valley behind Martinborough.
Nga Waka is an accredited member of Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand, promoting to provide a 'best practice' model of environmental practice for winegrowers, guaranting quality from the vineyard to the winery and addressing consumer concerns pertaining to the environment and winegrape production.
