Description

Sam Harrop, Master of Wine recently described Australian Shiraz as a wine style that is "one of the most consistent red wine value propositions in the world" and here at Black Market HQ are in agreement! So for your tasting pleasure we bring an exclusive collection of two of Cuisine's 'Best Buy' options from their recent Shiraz tasting...

Kirrihill Regional Selection Clare Valley Shiraz 2016 (Australia)

Awarded Best Buy & 4 Stars: Cuisine Magazine, June 2018

Awarded Silver Medal: New World Wine Awards

Awarded Silver Medal: New Zealand International Wine Show 2017

Awarded Silver Medal: Silver Perth Royal Wine Show

Awarded Silver Medal: Silver Royal Queensland Wine Show

Opening with aromas of ripe cherry, blackberry and plum with hints of cinnamon and nutmeg spiced biscuits. The palate is full bodied with a core of bright red berried fruit sweetness, balanced by a fine tannin structure, displaying great balance and length.

This wine features fruit from Auburn in the south of the Clare Valley and fruit the north and west of Clare town. Each vineyard brings its own take on Shiraz in the Clare Valley. In general, the Auburn fruit is more upfront and juicy while the shiraz from the harder soils around Clare are more bold and structural. In the winery a mix of techniques and fermenters configurations was used for this wine, including, cold soaking, open fermenters, roto-fermenters and rack and returns. Each technique is employed on differing fruit to maximise the result and contribution to the final blend. French and American oak staves are used to and tannic structure and balance to the blend.

Haselgrove H Shiraz 2016 (Australia)

Awarded Gold Medal: Gold NZ International Wine Show 2017

Awarded Best Buy & 4 Stars: Cuisine Magazine, June 2018

"A splendid juicy attack of plums and blackcurrants. Succulent, rounded and silky. Lovely flow and very friendly" NZ International Wine Show 2017

"From the first sniff, this multi-vineyard blend hollers ‘Aussie shiraz!’ with that familiar, traditional sweet blackberry perfume. In the mouth dark ripe berryfruit and prune notes, along with hints of spice and mint, dominate proceedings.  It’s a straightforward, fruit-driven style, firmly textured. Excellent value" Cuisine Magazine, June 2018

Aromas of ripe plum, blackberry and black forrest cake along with hints of raspberry and cinnamon spice. The palate is youthful and intense, displaying generous ripe plums and dark berries. This soft rounded palate is balanced gentle acidity, smooth tannins and a subtle savoury oak finish.

Established in 1981, Haselgrove is surrounded by over 10 hectares of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Mataro vines – with the Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon vines dating back more than 60 years. The gods were smiling the day that Haselgrove came to life. The site was chosen for a number of reasons, including aspect and soil composition, but lets face it, we are in the heart of Australian wine country and a perfect place to create world class, iconic and award winning wines.
