Description

Yellow in the glass. Nose is soft, appealing stone fruit along with tempting touches of hazelnut and lemon blossom with a sweet hint of almond praline. The palate is rich and round, with loads of yellow peach, fig and lemon curd, which pleasantly meld to a mid palate full of intriguing secondary notes of spice, toast and butterscotch with textural nutty, mealy complexity. The depth of the palate extends from the attractive structural acidity culminating in a zesty, clean finish
of tangerine and grapefruit pith.

Fat bastard wines is a collaboration between Thierry, a renowned winemaker who had crafted wines from California to France and Guy Anderson a rebel in the wine industry believing that quality was paramount in a wine but that the average consumer hated the traditional intimidation heaped on them by most of the wine industry. The two had collaborated before but this brand was born after trying an experimental wine that Thierry had, where he exclaimed it to be a 'Fat Bastard'!

Machine harvested during the cool of the night. Cold and slow fermentation with aromatic yeast to retain freshness in stainless steel. Matured over a plush amount of American and French oak. Bottled under screwcap to retain freshness.

Food Pairing: Well suited to a variety of seafood and poultry dishes and can handle something richer such as thick and hearty grilled pork sausages

M
a nice, oakey style chardonnay-not available from NZ wineries

Very pleasant as I am enjoying the depth and oakiness of the Californian chardonnays. This one's not as buttery as some of the others but I still very enjoyable to my old fashioned taste in chardonnay compared to most of the NZ ones.
