Description

"Lovely concentration and depth of vanilla, nut, lime, apple and spice flavours. A memorable wine with decent acidity and weight. Lengthy finish with a pinch of spice" Decanter World Wine Awards, Jun 2017

"Hand picked from their estate vineyard, the wine was blended with a small amount of semillon for added complexity. The beautifully fragrant bouquet shows grapefruit, green apple, lemongrass and stone fruit characters. It is vibrant and brightly flavoured on the palate, and displays fine texture and lovely focus, brilliantly structured by crisp acidity. At its best: now to 2019" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Apr 2017

"Bright pale straw yellow colour with slight green hues, lighter on the rim. The nose is fresh and softly packed with ripe gooseberry and tropical fruit aromas along with green tonefruits, lantana, soft grassy notes and fresh herbs. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate has an elegantly concentrated core with flavours of gooseberries, cut grass, green stonefruits, along with waxy, nutty and smoky suggestions adding interest. The mouthfeel is refreshing, zesty and bright, with lively acidity, and the wine flows along a fine-textured line, leading to a sustained, dry finish of gooseberries, cut grass and herbs. This is a bright and lively Sauvignon Blanc with fresh gooseberry, cut grass and green stonefruit flavours on a fine, textural palate. Match with salads and vegetables, and Mediterranean fare over the next 2-3 years. Sauvignon Blanc fruit tank-fermented with 30% in barrel with indigenous yeasts to 12.5% alc., the barrel portion aged 9 months on gross lees" Raymond Chan, Apr 2017

The 2016 Sauvignon blanc is a stylish vintage with typical in its herbaceous aromas, tight acidity and ample texture. Typical of Waiheke Sauvignon blanc, our 2016 Estate Savvy is perfect with a year or two of age allowing the wine to mellow and showcase the wines structure and longevity. The wine is conveying the volcanic influence in the soil through its minerality and elevated acidity which is well balanced with texture from the barrel influence and ripe fruit tannins extracted from the skins in the cloudy ferments.

2016 was an good vintage with the Sauvignon blanc and Sémillon (5% of the blend) all coming in mid March in great condition. All the grapes were whole bunch pressed however each of the Sauvignon blanc vineyards harvest were split into two batches, one for traditional stainless steel fermentation and the other for cloudy juice ferments with wild yeasts. The Sémillon was racked clean into old barrels for fermentation. After fermentation the barrels were kept on their lees for six months prior to blending and bottling.

This wine is bottled and protected under screw cap as Man O' War believe it is the best closure for quality wine.
