Description
"Very engaging bouquet of Syrah - meaty, spicy, masculine an oaky; fruit aromas of dark berries suggesting dark and ripe black currant, dark plum then clove and toasty oak suggestions, youthful. On the palate - firm, dry, youthful and tense with firm tannins, medium+ acidity and weight, plenty of oak and strong flavours including the darker berry fruits suggested earlier. A youthful example still finding its way to balance, but does have good potential to become a finer wine with time. Decant for service and service with high protein food. Best drinking window from late 2018 through 2024" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, July 2017
An aromatic Syrah with aromas of vanilla, black pepper, boysenberry and sweet violet. Sweet spice aromas add complexity. Medium bodied with flavours of cherry and dark berry fruits, black tea and savoury tones. French oak imparts spice and vanilla. Soft supple tannins and a lingering finish make this an excellent food wine.
The grapes for this vintage were lightly crushed to purpose built red fermentation tanks. Rhone yeasts were selected to carry out fermentation allowing the full potential of aromatic intensity to be reached. Arfter this pressing the wine was matured in predominantly French oak barriques. To retain the vibrant, varietal fruit characters and become a true expression of it terroir the wine was racked twice over its 12 month maturation period, being bottled in mid May. The vibrant varietal characters of this wine may be enjoyed when the wine is young however some cellaring will result in a more rounded, complex wine.
Food Pairing: Great with pizza, classic Bolognese, Romano pasta, lamb and Moroccan inspired dishes.
