Description

"Vibrant aromatics, grassy, herbal fruit characters, supported with flint notes, this is a punchy, youthful wine, generous in the mouth, but not sweet. Concentrated, juicy texture, yet with firm acidity which should make for a marvellous food wine (personally I cannot wait to try this with freshly shucked oysters or steamed mussels), a really classy wine at a giveaway price. 2017 is a really interesting Marlborough vintage. Some of the big producers evidently got caught out by the weather, but for those quality focussed producers who hang out less fruit and devote more human power to the vineyard, this is an elegant, fine year, producing wines with more finesse than usual" Paul Tudor, Master of Wine, May 2018

"This is a lovely alternative-style sauvignon made from hand-picked grapes; displaying delicate aromas of grapefruit, green apple, gunsmoke and lemon zest characters. The palate is taut and linear, delivering elegant fruit intensity and fine texture, firmly supported by racy acidity. A savoury expression offering excellent focus and structure, ideally suited to partner light seafood dishes. At its best: now to 2020" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2018

Aromatic and slightly herbal with a combination of dogwood and yellow flowers (think gorse and broom). On the palate the wine is crisp and dry with gooseberry and melon fruit flavours. There is a touch of green apple acidity leading into a clean finish.

This wine is sourced from the Churton Vineyard in the southern hills area of the Wairau Valley in Marlborough. Here the soils are deeper than the valley floor with a clay loess structure that gives the wines depth of fruit and a tight structure. 2017 was a good growing season with a warm flowering and even fruit set. Though warm throughout, the summer was remarkably unsettled and concluded with a dramatic harvest of picking around stubborn weather patterns. The season delivered cool and racy fruit characters and the Tummil Flat Sauvignon Blanc is a classic expression of the Marlborough region.

All fruit was hand harvested, picked in the cool of the morning. Fruit was transported to the winery, gently pressed and resultant juice clarified. A long cool ferment in tank was followed by a short rest on yeast lees prior to blending and bottling in August. The objective of the Tummil Flat Sauvignon Blanc winemaking is to retain fruit aromatics and freshness in the wine whilst allowing for depth and texture to evolve. Tummil Flat Sauvignon Blanc is vibrant in its youth, ideal cellaring is 18 to 24 months from harvest.

Food Pairing: Fantastic with a spring salad of charred fresh asparagus and goat’s feta
