Description
"A gorgeous complex offering; the fragrant bouquet shows ripe peach, rockmelon, nougat and brioche characters with subtle vanilla and hazelnut notes. The palate is succulent and beautifully weighted, delivering delectable fruit flavours together with stylish oak infusion. It is fleshy, rounded and persistent with a lingering silky finish. At its best: now to 2021" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Feb 2018
Perched on the eastern Martinborough Terraces, family-owned Pirinoa Road harnesses the best of nature’s bounty, carefully crafting wines of the highest quality from their 25-acre Pirinoa Road block. Martinborough enjoys hot summers, long dry autumns and stoney terrain which has resulted in this boutique growing region gaining worldwide acclaim for Pinot Noir, yet conditions also synonymous for elegant fruity and oaky Chardonnays.
Planted in 1997, the vines are now well established. A mixture of clones are planted to ensure a breadth of flavour in the wine. The vines are un-grafted, allowing their natural roots to delve deep into our soil, which are some of the heaviest and coolest in the vineyard. We feel this adds depth to the resulting wine through a longer, slower ripening period.
The 2017 season was warm allowing high quality fruit to be harvested early in the season giving the wine a brilliantly perfumed bouquet. Once in the winery these grapes were whole bunch pressed, with minimal settling before bring transferred to a combination of 15 % New French oak, seasoned barrels and tank. A warm fermentation was completed using natural yeasts. The wine underwent minimal malolactic fermentation, which was carried out by our indigenous bacterial culture. The wine is aged on yeast lees for 10 months before being selectively blended, fined and filtered.
Food Pairing: Cheese platters, chicken pasta or slow cooked pork belly.
